Why Drinking Water is SO IMPORTANT! – How Much Water?
You can go for weeks without food but without water you’re only going to survive around three days. This is why water is so important. In this video “Why Drinking Water is SO IMPORTANT! – How Much Water?”, Dr. Nick Zyrowski will uncover how much water and what kind of water you should drink.
It’s very easy to get caught up in drinking teas, coffee, soda, energy drinks and fruit juices… literally anything and everything other than water. Our bodies need water so if you’re not getting enough of it you become dehydrated.
Here’s a few of the symptoms to watch out for of dehydration:
- *dark urine
- *muscle cramping
- *dry mouth
So how much water should you consume in a day? The rule of thumb is that you should drink half your body weight in ounces. So if you weigh for example 160 pounds and you divide that in half then you should drink 80 ounces of water per day. However, this number doesn’t really work because there are way too many factors unique to your life that would never allow us to set a predetermined amount of water you should drink in a day. We have to take into consideration factors like:
- *Do you exercise?
- *What level of physical activity do you have throughout the day? or even
- *DO you often sweat a lot in your job?
- *Are you a female who’s pregnant or on your cycle?
So instead of using 50 of your body weight in ounces we use a sliding scale of 40 to 60 percent of your body weight in ounces. It’s not good to drink too much water but it’s also not good to drink too little water.
If you drink too little water, you’ll find that many of the symptoms of dehydration begin to show up and if you drink too much water, you’ll flush out electrolytes.
